Fixings into wood are usually screwed, into steel are riveted with special sealed rivets on roofs to stop any penetration of water. Fixings into GRP can be either riveted or screwed. The benefits of rivets into steel over screws is that should a fixing shear in a collision it is much easier to repair and replace than a squashed screw.
